PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE:

Task: to assess the long-term professional development needs and make recommendations for providing ongoing development for human resources professionals, managers and supervisors, and classified and non-classified staff in the West Virginia higher education system.

Top Three Goals:

  1. To assess the current state of “professional development” processes and activities within all institutions;
     

  2. To assess the current and projected needs for “professional development” from individual employees within identified constituent groups across all institutions;
     

  3. To analyze the results from both surveys and compile a detailed report containing recommendations regarding implementation and sustainability of a professional development structure for all higher education institutions.

Next Steps:

  1. Develop draft recommendations based upon survey of human resources administrators and professional development trainers and the survey for all classified and non-classified employees.
     

  2. Design and distribute the second survey to employees to assess their needs for professional development by the first quarter of 2008.
     

  3. Prepare final recommendations by June 2008.
